The Grand Finals Night of the First Awit Sa Diyos New Mass Hymns Competition was held successfully last October 25, 2013 at the Main Church of Christ the King Parish in Greenmeadows, Quezon City.
The song “Lamb of God” composed by Joseph Reburiano of Ateneo de Naga was declared Best Song in the Mass Ordinary category, while the song “Hindi Ako Mangangamba” by Jay-El Viteño, was adjudged Best Song in the Mass Proper Category. Both songs were also declared Grand Prize winners and shared the top prize of P100,000, plus glass trophies and gold-plated medallions.
All 18 finalists for the different sub-categories (e.g. Entrance, Offertory, Communion, Recessional, Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Pater Noster and Agnus Dei) were performed live by four distinguished choral groups from Cavite and Manila, namely Our Lady of the Pillar Cathedral Choir and Imusicapella from Imus, Regina Coeli Choir from Rosario, Cavite, and the San Sebastian Chamber Choir from Quiapo, Manila.
The Panel of Judges was chaired by Rev. Fr. Leo Nilo Mangussad, the current director of the Archdiocese of Manila Commission on Music in the Liturgy. He was joined by Assumption College Dean Dr. Carmen Lourdes Valdes, multi-awarded songwriter and choir master Arnel de Pano, and music legend Jose Mari Chan.
Manila Archbishop and Chairman of the Bahay ng Diyos Foundation Advisory Council, His Eminence Luis Antonio G. Cardinal Tagle, prepared his video message for the event and a song number, “Sanlibong Buhay” in honor of the first Filipino saint, Lorenzo Ruiz. Members of the clergy, religious, and lay organizations mostly from parishes witnessed the grand finals show.
Awit sa Diyos was presented by Asian Terminals Inc. (ATI) and International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI), in cooperation with Philippine Skylanders Inc., SM Foundation Inc., BPI Foundation Inc., Manila North Harbour Port Inc., and the Port Users Confederation Inc.
