Bishop Crispin Varquez appeals for assistance for typhoon victims

The destruction caused by super typhoon Yolanda to 18 parishes in Eastern Samar is massive. It will take several months until residents in those parishes are able to fend for themselves. Aside from food, people need materials and tools for them to be able to start rebuilding their houses.

Our Lady of Remedies Parish (Giporlos, Eastern Samar)

Population: 12,040

Priest: Rev. Msgr. Crescente Japzon, P.A.

Situationer:Giporlos is a coastal town in the southern part of the province of Eastern Samar. Majority of the houses and public buildings were destroyed, and the parish church and rectory were heavily destroyed.

Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish (Guian, Eastern Samar)

Population: 47,037

Priests: Msgr. Lope C. Robredillo (Moderator), Rev. Fr. Arturo Cablao, Rev. Fr. Amabe Moslares

Situationer: First landfall of super typhoon Yolanda; almost all houses / buildings destroyed; parish church and rectory totally wrecked.

Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary (Matarinao, Salcedo, Eastern Samar)

Population: 3,025

Priest: Rev. Fr. Edgar Abucejo

Situationer:  This is a barangay parish of the municipality of Salcedo, Eastern Samar; almost all houses / buildings destroyed. Parish church and rectory wrecked.

Sto. Niño Parish (Lawaan, Eastern Samar)

Population: 11,612

Priests: Rev. Fr. Roneil Canilla

Situationer: Lawaan is a coastal town; the last town of the diocese of Borongan to the South. Majority of the houses and public buildings were destroyed. Church and rectory were partially destroyed.

St. Francis of Assisi Parish (Mercedes, Eastern Samar)

Population: 5,369

Priest: Rev. Fr. Moses Mel Campo, Jr.

Situationer: This is a 4th class municipality in the province of Eastern Samar; a coastal town that lies next to the municipality of Guiuan. Almost all houses / buildings destroyed. The parish church and rectory wrecked.

St. Isidore the Farmer Parish (Salcedo, Eastern Samar)

Population: 19,970

Priest: Rev. Fr. Nemesio Quiloña

Situationer:  This is a 4th class municipality in the province of Eastern Samar; a coastal town that lies close to the municipality of Guiuan. Almost all houses / buildings destroyed; Parish church and rectory wrecked.

St. Lawrence the Martyr Parish (Balangiga, Eastern Samar)

Population: 12, 756

Priest: Rev. Fr. Joaquin Bertos

Situationer: Balangiga is a coastal town, known for the “Balangiga Bells that were used as “war booty” by American Soldiers in 1901. Majority of the houses and public buildings were destroyed. Parish church and rectory were heavily destroyed.

St. Nicolas of Tolentine (Quinapondan, Eastern Samar)

Population: 13,841

Priest: Rev. Fr. Edwin Juaban

Situationer: This is a 5th class municipality in the Province of Eastern Samar and an agricultural town that has earned the reputation of being the “rice granary” of the Southern part of Samar. Majority of the houses and public buildings were destroyed. The Parish Church and rectory were unroofed.
